Mandate Leadership Commends Tinubu On LG Autonomy, Labour Engagement, Other Initiatives

The leadership of The Mandate Movement (TMM) has commended President Bola Tinubu on some of the initiatives by his administration which the political group described as bold steps.

The group specifically stated that Mr President deserves commendations for the local government suit which was filed at the Supreme Court by his administration and which TMM has said that its outcome would bring about development in the council administration.

In a statement issued after reviewing current political and economic issues in the country, the Apex leadership of the group also commended the present administration on its continuous engagements with labour unions on minimum wage among other issues raised.

“In continuation of its resolve to be a resource and think-tank team for good governance, articulation of developmental ideas and promotion of people centered initiatives, The Apex Leadership of The Mandate Movement (TMM) cleavage met in Lagos to discuss and review current political issues and situation in the country”, the statement said.

“The group commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the bold initiatives of his administration, some of which are;

“Continuous engagement of the Leadership of the Nigerian Labour Unions towards finding a compromise to the minimum wage imbroglio; waivers/relaxation of import duties and tariffs on some food items importation for six months to cushion the effects of food shortages and high prices.

“The landmark Supreme Court’s ruling on the right of the Local Government tier of government to financial autonomy, an outcome of a suit instituted by the Attorney-General of the Federation and a judicial decision that is expected to crystallize and engender rapid development and impactful growth at the grassroots.

On the proposed creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development, TMM is of the view that the initiative will bring lasting peace among farmers and herders.

“The proposed and bold initiative of creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development, a move that the TMM leaders believe will not only enhance lasting peace amongst farmers and herders in the country, but also allow for a policy thrust on grazing and land grabbing matters which have resulted in internal disputes and displacements”.

The group also charged the government on the need to invest more in food production locally, while also commending Nigerians for their patience.

“The TMM Leadership enjoined the government to continue in its efforts to encourage local food production as a way of boosting food security in the country.

“The Movement praised Nigerians for their patriotism, commitment and perseverance, assuring that the current pains and hardships will ultimately become gains for the people”, TMM said.
